Roofing Squares Calculator
Convert roof surface square feet to roofing squares and practice an explicit material allowance.
Square feet to roofing squares
One roofing square is 100 square feet. Divide measured roof surface area by 100. For an additional-material exercise, multiply surface area by one plus your allowance percentage divided by 100, then divide by 100.
Example: 2,400 square feet is 24 squares. An assumed 10 percent allowance produces 2,640 square feet or 26.4 squares. This example is arithmetic, not a recommended allowance for every roof.
Use the right measurement
Enter roof surface area, not a building footprint unless a qualified measurement method has already accounted for slope. This tool does not calculate pitch, bundle counts, product coverage, ordering increments or a waste factor for a particular design. Verify the product and job requirements.
