The regulated role

Tennessee defines a public adjuster by the work performed, the client served, and the claim involved. A person outside an insurer who acts for compensation on behalf of an insured in investigating, verifying, substantiating, estimating, appraising, presenting, discussing, or effectuating resolution of a first-party claim under insurance covering the insured's real or personal property can fall within the license. Advertising or soliciting that work, and assisting another public adjuster with regulated claim activity, can also trigger the statute. A job title does not narrow the definition. Intake should identify the insured, property interest, policy, loss, services, compensation, and person who will perform each task.

Course takeaway: Tennessee licenses insured-side first-party property claim work and tests it in a 50-scoreable-question, one-hour examination.
