Act 209 controls current practice

South Carolina Act 209 was approved May 19, 2026 and took effect upon approval. It added Chapter 92 for public insurance adjusters and expressly repealed former Chapter 48. Chapter 92 therefore controls current practice even though the ordinary online code page and some Department or exam-provider material still display earlier provisions. A reliable compliance file identifies the source, enactment status, effective date, and review date instead of assuming that the easiest page to find is current.

Course takeaway: Act 209 governs current conduct: public adjusting includes insured-side first-party property work, advertising, solicitation, investigation, advice, negotiation, and settlement.
