Controlling authority
Rhode Island makes rhode island public-adjuster role, scope, and examination a source-and-scope exercise. Whom does a Rhode Island public adjuster represent? The insured on covered first-party real- or personal-property claims. The active rule defines the role as insured-side first-party property claim work. Which claim types are excluded from the rule’s public-adjuster definition? Automobile, life, and accident-and-health claims. The definition expressly excludes automobile, life, and accident-and-health insurance. Start with current Chapter 27-10 and active 230-RICR-20-50-4, then use section 27-9.1-4 for a qualifying direction to pay and the current Pearson VUE handbook for examination administration. The active rule has been effective since May 28, 2024. Bulletin 2024-7 explains that adjuster continuing education applies to covered expirations in 2026 and later.
Course takeaway: The insured on covered first-party real- or personal-property claims. Automobile, life, and accident-and-health claims. Advertising, soliciting, or representing oneself as a public adjuster of first-party property claims.
