Read a sample: Iowa role, first-party scope, and official examination
Controlling authority
Iowa's current framework makes iowa role, first-party scope, and official examination a source-order problem. Whose interest does an Iowa public adjuster serve? The insured’s interest in preparing, presenting, and settling a first-party claim. Chapter 522C limits the public-adjuster role to insured-side first-party claim assistance. When is an Iowa public-adjuster license required? Before a person acts as or represents that the person is a public adjuster in Iowa. The licensing trigger includes acting and holding oneself out, not merely receiving payment. Begin with the 2026 Iowa Code, then use current Division guidance and the administrative rules to implement it. SF 619 substantially rewrote chapter 522C in 2025. Where an older rule still says seventy-two hours but the later statute and June 2026 checklist say five calendar days, follow the statute and document the source conflict. Do not turn the expired October 2025 transition for specified independent and staff adjusters into a public-adjuster exemption.
Course takeaway: The insured’s interest in preparing, presenting, and settling a first-party claim. Before a person acts as or represents that the person is a public adjuster in Iowa. Exam 12-IA-26, Public Adjuster & Appraiser.
